Introduction of Institutional Records Officer
To the College of Charleston Campus Community:
It is my pleasure to inform you of an important new resource on campus. Mrs. Laetitia Sobiesuo, formerly the post-matriculation transfer credit evaluator in the Office of the Registrar, was recently selected for the newly-created position of Institutional Records Officer.
In her new role, Mrs. Sobiesuo will be responsible for coordinating the College's management of all institutional records and for serving as our liaison with the Archives and Records Management Division of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History. Under the Division’s program, records are inventoried, records retention schedules are established, micrographics, optical disk and other applications are applied as necessary, inactive records are properly stored, and records are disposed of at the proper time in accordance with approved records retention schedules.
According to the Archives and Records Management Division of the State Archives, and in accordance with Section 30-1-90CB of the Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, the department's General Retention and Disposition Schedule is the legal authorization that governs how we retain and dispose of common records generated by all state colleges. It is critical, therefore, that we are cognizant of and adhere to established laws concerning the proper maintenance and disposal all of our institutional records.
In due time, Mrs. Sobiesuo will be contacting individual departments to review record types and records retention policies while determining whether established area guidelines properly meet the legal obligations called for by the State. Please welcome her into this important new role and extend your full cooperation as she works to guarantee full records compliance for the entire institution. She may be reached in the Office of the Registrar, Lightsey Center, phone extension 3-7134.
Thank you for your cooperation.
